Sailors - Sailors Hope for Better Things Down the Stretch
Team Slowly Healing After Rash of Injuries
The Sailors are looking to to make some noise in the Western Junior C Hockey League with 12 games left in the regular-season.
Only three of those games are at MRC -- against Kincardine on January 9th, Mitchell on January 23rd and Walkerton on February 6th.
A solid effort in Walkerton on Sunday went unrewarded as the Sailors lost 10-1 despite being outshot only by a margin of 30-28.
Scott Miller's goal at 9:28 of the second period was set up by Tyler Million and Brett McGuinness.
The Goderich Sailors put in another worthy effort on December 18th but took a 4-1 loss to Mitchell at MRC.
The Sailors' lone goal was scored unassisted on the power-play by Thomas Bedour at the 9:08 mark of the second period.
Sailors' Head Coach Todd Goetz says the club did a solid job against one of the league's fastest teams.
Goetz says the Sailors weren't able to convert on several good scoring chances and while the team shouldn't be content with the outcome it was a well-rounded effort.
Goetz says the Sailors' goaltending is developing well and it showed in Sheldon Reid's performance in which he made 38 saves.
He says both Reid and Shawn Gethke are young netminders who have developed well this season and are secure in their roles with the club.
Goetz says the tandem gives Goderich solid goaltending in every game.
The Sailors play Hanover in Durham on Wednesday, then visit Mitchell on January 3rd before returning home to host Kincardine at MRC, January 9th at 8pm.
