Injuries Piling Up After Game 1
Submitted By Sailors Staff on Thursday, February 18, 2010
In their final game of the regular season, the Sailors dressed 10 skaters and 2 goalies; prompting some fans to ask: why?
Well to use the parlance of our times, one of the reasons is a
redonculous number of injuries. And after the first game versus Hanover (a 9-0 loss in Durham), unfortunately another name was added to that list. The players who are out for the remainder of the season now include Brendan Thomson (last night), Shawn McColl (early January), Brandon Dykxhoorn (late January), Dean Reynolds (last Saturday), Austin Spencer (early January), Shawn Moore (November), and Will Kelly (mid January). Tyler Durst and Brent Alton are also currently out of the lineup with injury and are doubtful for this weekend. For those counting, that's 9 of the 22 skaters injured.
Long-time Sailor and assistant captain Matt McClinchey left the team in December for personal reasons, and captain Scott Miller is currently out of the country. That leaves 11 skaters available for this weekend which, in a word, is somewhat redonculous. But this team has fought through adversity all year and won't be making any excuses come game time on Saturday. Game 2 is Saturday at the Maitland Recreation Centre, puck drop at 8:00 pm.
