A Season in Reflection...

Beginning last May with Monday night skates and Thursday night work outs, training camp in early August and 2 practices per week this Sailor team worked harder than any previous Sailor team and likely harder than any other Jr C team. However the hard results in the win/loss column did not reach the expectation of team staff or players. This season did however realize many upsides for this young squad...
No we did not win the games we had hoped we would win, we did however significantly reduce our goals against and we were in far many more games than we were out of. Our fans were treated to entertaining hard fought games.
If as a coach I run down my roster there were very few kids that I saw no appreciable improvement, and there were several that improved a great deal.
Environment, with our game day activities, team meals after every Sunday practice, road hockey games, barbeques, workout sessions and marathon practices we had a ton of fun, I would be shocked if any other team had as great an environment or as much fun as we did while working our tails off.
Relationships, what a great group of young men, accountable, keen, committed and optimistic we had tremendous character on this team. Highlighted by the support of numerous injured players at our last game and the commitment of a few battle weary soldiers that were able to play with a ridiculously short bench right to the very end. Many thanks to our over-agers that will be moving on, you will be missed,
Brendan Thomson, Brent Debruyn, Brett Phillips, Shawn Moore, and Matt Mclinchey. Thanks for your years of service!
I will always hold very fond memories of this season, the friends that I have made and the character that I have witnessed, but the end of one season signals the start of the next.
Keep an eye out on our website for our summer program to get going again in May. Goderich will provide opportunity for skilled hockey players to play important minutes as we need to add several players to our roster in the upcoming season!
