Sailors - Sailors down Ironmen
After a disappointing weekend, the Goderich Sailors bounced back into the win column Wednesday night, with a tidy 2-1 victory in Wingham.
It was a "net-out" effort for the Sailors, starting with the solid play of Jaden Shrier, who made 40 saves in the win. A close second to the stellar goaltending was the Sailors' play in their own end. Although they continue to struggle with turnovers, the Sailors did a nice job of minimizing the damage from them, giving Shrier a good look at most shots, and preventing the all-to-familiar second, third and fourth chances he's so used to facing.
Although the offence only put 15 shots on the Ironmen net, they capitalized when it counted, the first by Brandon Dykxhoorn on a nifty passing play from Spencer Aspden and Connor Devereaux. The line of Curtis Taylor, Nic Gowing and Brandon Howald played an enormous game in both ends, and rewarded themselves with the game winner. It was an unselfish dump to get the puck deep with less than 2 minutes left on the clock, that turned into a pass from Gowing to Taylor, and a nice top corner finish.
The Sailors next action is Tuesday night (Dec. 27) at the MRC against the Mitchell Hawks. The puck drops at 8pm.
