Sailors to Host Toy Drive This Friday
Submitted By Gerard Creces on Wednesday, November 18, 2009
The Goderich Junior 'C' Sailors will be holding a toy drive this Friday, November 20, during the home game against the Mount Forest Patriots at the Maitland Recreation Centre. General manager Ken Crawford said the toy donations will be going to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Stuffed toys need to be wrapped in clear plastic, and all donations are greatly appreciated, he said.

The Sailors will also be holding a food drive in the weeks before Christmas, and Crawford said details will be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, on the ice, the Junior 'C' squad was sleepy out of the gates Saturday night, allowing the Wingham Ironmen ample time to build up a 5-0 lead at the end of two periods for a 6-2 final.

Netminder Shawn Gethke got little help from the Sailors' defensive lines until the third period, when the team came to life for a two-goal spree early on.

Brett McGuiness started the Sailors off with a powerplay goal less than 30 seconds into the third off Jamie Miller and Matt McClinchey. Three minutes later, Brandon Dykxhoorn lit one up from the blue line off a pass from Thomas Bedour.

However, the remainder of the game was a chippy affair, with a newly-awakened Sailors bench getting into the fray with the Ironmen numerous times.

Wingham outshot their hosts 45-25.

A Friday night shootout loss to Mount Forest puts the Sailors in a tie for last place with the Patriots.

The puck drops against Mount Forest at 8 p.m. and fans are encouraged to bring a toy for the Christmas Bureau.
