It’s Sailors vs. Hanover
Goderich Finishes in Regular Season in 7th Place
The power-play kept working in the final two games of the regular-season Friday and Saturday, but losses in Mount Forest and Hanover will see the Sailors play the Barons in the best-of-five opening round playoff series.
The Sailors got power-play goals Friday from Brett McGuinness, Brett Austin and Jaime Miller in an 8-4 loss to the Patriots. Jamie Miller rounded out the scoring in a game that got away from the Sailors in the second period. Austin had one of his better nights on the season, chipping in with three assists -- also assisting were Brendan Thomson, Ben Sloetjes and Tyler Million. Sheldon Reid made 45 saves on a night in which the Sailors were outshot 53-39.
On Saturday, the Sailors were blanked 3-0 by Hanover in Durham, in a game which saw just 10 Goderich skaters and the two netminders dress for the game. A creditable performance nevertheless, given that the margin in shots on goal was 48-23 in favour of the Barons. Even more encouraging is the fact Shawn Gethke went the distance in goal, making 45 saves.
The playoffs begin in Durham Wednesday at 8:30pm, with Game Two at MRC Saturday at 8pm and Game Three in Durham, Sunday at 12noon.
If necessary, Game Four would be played at MRC on Tuesday, February 23rd at 9pm. Game Five would be played in Durham on Wednesday, February 24th at 8:30pm.
